Although not well known in the US, this easy to grow green is widely popular around the world. The compact 18 inch plants produce thick and succulent greens that are absolutely packet with nutrients. Purslane contains more good omega-3 fatty acids than any other plant source. It is also a great source of vitamins A, B, C, and E, magnesium, calcium, potassium, folate, lithium, iron and is 2.5% protein! Add to salads, salsas, or cooked on their own for a nice bright and refreshing flavor.

Purslane is a very easy to grow herb that will thrive in most conditions, but prefers the heat and will not tolerate any frost. 

When to Sow:

Purslane can be planted in the spring after the first frost, or started indoors 3-4 weeks ahead of time. The herb is a cut and come again plant, but if you fall in love with the flavor, additional plantings throughout the summer will keep you supplied.
