Watermelon ‘Jubilee’ – Citrullus lanatus var. lanatus
Huge oblong melons regularly reaching 25 to 40 pounds. Beautiful dark green stripes and a bright red and crispy sweet flesh.
SOW seeds indoors about 4 weeks before your last frost date or outdoors about 1 to 2 weeks after. Plant require a lot of space to spread and can benefit from trellising.
HARVEST ripe fruit when the ground spot has turned from white to yellow, the tendril nearest the fruit has dried, and you hear a “thunk” instead of a “tink” when tapped.
TIPS Melons love consistent heat. Consider growing under a row cover when the plants are young to quicken growth and protect from insects. Cut back water as fruits near ripeness to prevent split melons and bland flavor.
